Japan, San Marino top life expectancy list: WHO

Japan has been matched by the tiny European country of San Marino in terms of the longest life expectancy in the world at 83 years, according to a report released Monday by the World Health Organization. The report for 2008 said the average life expectancy for Japanese remained unchanged from the previous year, while San Marino increased its average by one year. People in Afghanistan and Zimbabwe had the shortest life expectancy at 42.
By gender, Japanese women remained on top at 86 years but men in the country can expect to live until 79―fourth on the list behind San Marino at 81 as well as Switzerland and Iceland, both at 80. The world’s average life expectancy in 2008 was 71.
The WHO report also showed that South Korea and Bosnia-Herzegovina had the lowest fertility rate with an average of 1.2 babies per woman of reproductive age. Japan, Germany and Romania were among the second-lowest group of countries at 1.3.

なお、性別では、女性が８６歳で世界最長、男性は７９歳で世界４位とのことらしい。(どうも長過ぎるような気がするが、特に女性)
いずれにしても、このワタクシの場合、どう勘定しても、半分は過ぎていることは間違いない。
